A 58-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car while acting as a banksman for an HGV in Wigan, prompting a police appeal for witnesses in Oldham and across Greater Manchester.

The collision occurred on Gathurst Road at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, 21 July. The man was standing in the carriageway, helping the driver of a heavy goods vehicle reverse out of a side street, when a car collided with him.
