Students at Hulme Grammar School collected a record-breaking set of A Level results on 13 August 2026, with a quarter of all grades awarded at A*, 50% at A* to A and 75% at A* to B.

The school described the results as among the strongest in its history and said they reflected a diverse community of young people from across Oldham and beyond. A significant number of students are supported through bursaries funded by the Old Hulmeian community and other benefactors, which the school said allows talented students to attend regardless of family circumstances.

The Class of 2026 also contributed beyond the classroom, representing the school in netball and football, performing in orchestras, choirs and musical productions, volunteering locally and mentoring younger pupils.

Among the highest achievers, Terence gained four A* grades and will study Law at Trinity College, Cambridge. Pashtana and Zainab each achieved three A* grades and will study Medicine, while Maruf also gained three A* grades and will study Dentistry. The school said 20% of this year's leavers are progressing to degrees in medicine and related fields.

Sonny will study Music at the Royal Northern College of Music, and Lucy will study Performing Arts at the University of Salford.

The four Head Students, Charlie, Phoebe, Scarlett and Theo, achieved six A* and six A grades between them. They now move on to university courses ranging from Law to Engineering.

Former pupils include physicist and broadcaster Professor Brian Cox, whose journey from Oldham to an international science career the school cites as an example of where a Hulme education can lead.

The school is holding a Sixth Form Clearing Day on Thursday 20 August from 1.00pm until 3.00pm for Year 11 students and their families to discuss subject choices and check whether a place may be available for September. They can call the Sixth Form Clearing Hotline or visit the school in person.
