Hot Duck in Uppermill has promised to return after a fire gutted the High Street restaurant on Sunday, September 7.

Emergency services closed High Street for several hours while crews tackled the blaze. No-one was injured, but the building was damaged and gutted.

In a statement, the owners said: "Thankfully, everyone is safe, and for that, we're incredibly grateful."

They said it was heartbreaking to see something they had worked hard on over the years so badly damaged. They thanked customers, friends, neighbours, suppliers and the wider community for messages, calls and offers of help.

The restaurant will remain closed while the long process of rebuilding begins. The owners said: "It won't be easy, but we will do everything we can to come back stronger."
