Oldham residents can try yoga, meditation, Pilates and free health checks at a free mental health and wellbeing event this weekend.

WellFest is being held at Mahdlo Youth Zone on Sunday, October 11, from 11am to 3.30pm.

The event comes the day after World Mental Health Day and will offer people the chance to discover different ways to look after their wellbeing, while finding out about support available locally.

As well as yoga, guided meditation, Pilates and free health check MOTs, there will be workshops exploring subjects including body positivity and building a "coping skills" toolbox. Younger visitors can also get involved in games, arts and crafts, sports and a bouncy castle.

A number of local organisations will be there, including Mind, The Crimson Wave, UKeff and Gemma Unsworth Yoga, giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about support available across Oldham.

WellFest is open to everyone and people do not need to be a member of Mahdlo Youth Zone to attend. Young people aged between eight and 19, or up to 25 with additional needs, can also sign up for a free annual Mahdlo membership when they attend, giving them access to regular sessions and activities throughout the year.

Lucy Lees, Chief Executive of Mahdlo Youth Zone, said: "We are so excited to be hosting WellFest at Mahdlo! We really wanted to create a welcoming and positive space where people can come along, try a new activity and find out more about looking after their mental health.

"WellFest will bring together a fantastic mix of local organisations and charities, giving people the chance to find out more about the specialist support available here in Oldham.

"We are looking forward to what promises to be a fantastic event, and a great way to mark World Mental Health Day."
