Former Oldham Athletic Director helps raise £25,000 in 24-hour padel marathon for mental health
A former Oldham Athletic director helped raise £25,000 for mental health charity Six Connections through a 24-hour padel marathon.

A former Oldham Athletic director has helped raise more than £25,000 for a mental health charity by organising a 24-hour padel marathon.
Simon Brooke, who previously served on the board at Oldham Athletic and Oldham Event Centre, was part of the core team behind the inaugural 24 Hour Padel People event. It was held at Pendle Padel Club.
Twelve players remained on court continuously for 24 hours, facing dozens of different opponents. Hundreds of supporters, businesses and volunteers came together over the day and night to back the challenge.
"This was never just about playing padel for 24 hours," said Brooke. "We wanted to create an event that brought people together, got people talking and raised vital funds for mental health support."
The event ultimately raised more than £25,000. The money will help Six Connections provide mental health awareness and conversation training for charities, schools, sports clubs and community organisations across Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
Brooke has supported several community fundraising initiatives in recent years, helping to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charitable causes. He said the inaugural 24-hour challenge is already expected to become an annual fixture.
