A former toilet block in Delph will be demolished and replaced with a private garage and study/workshop.

The site is at the junction of High Street, Delph Lane and Hill End Road. It has been redundant for a number of years and was sold after being declared surplus by Oldham Council.

Oldham Council planning officers, the staff who assess building applications, have approved a plan from Rod Lawson for a "single storey, low profile and functional" building at the rear of the site. The council received the proposal in 2023. A similar plan was refused in 2017.

Access will be from Hill End Road, with space for vehicles to turn. The application claims the scheme will end "its association with anti-social behaviour."

Supporting documents for the scheme state: "It will be an attractive building that will fit well within its setting."

In a report, officers said the proposed building would be "relatively modest in scale" and finished in materials similar to many buildings in the area. They said it would not lead to any significant overbearing, overshadowing or overlooking for neighbours, would not harm the character and appearance of the conservation area, and would not lead to any severe highway safety issues.
