Oldham Council is encouraging residents to explore the borough's 32 parks and green spaces during #LoveParks Week, which runs from 24 July to 2 August. The national campaign, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, celebrates parks, the people who care for them, and their community benefits.

With family fun, exercise, or relaxation in mind, the council suggests visiting a park you haven't explored before. Options include Alexandra Park, the woodland trails at Tandle Hill Country Park, or the wildlife at Daisy Nook Country Park.

Parks are promoted as ideal for physical and mental wellbeing. Oldham has a range of outdoor gyms designed for all ages and abilities. Some are set up as fitness trails winding through green spaces, while others are formal workout areas.

The summer holidays offer a chance for families to use local playgrounds, open spaces, and picnic spots for a free day out. Uppermill and Alexandra Park both host Junior Parkruns every Sunday.

Spending time in parks can reduce stress and offer social connection. Residents are encouraged to look for wildlife, enjoy the peace, and switch off from screens. Throughout the year, parks across the borough host various activities and events.

Darren McGrattan, Assistant Director, Waste, Cleansing and Greenspace at Oldham Council, said: "Love Parks Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the wonderful green spaces we have across Oldham. We are home to some of the very best parks and green spaces in Greater Manchester, and we're incredibly fortunate to have such a diverse range of beautiful outdoor spaces right on our doorstep. I would encourage residents to get outside this summer, visit somewhere new and discover everything our parks have to offer."
