First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) has invested £4,000 into a six-month pilot scheme with Mahdlo Youth Zone, offering free membership, activities, and meals for young people living in FCHO properties across Oldham.

The initiative, which began in April and runs until October, targets children and young adults aged eight to 19, providing them with full access to Mahdlo's facilities on Egerton Street. This includes clubs and sessions in sport, music, dance, and drama, alongside complimentary meals during their visits.

The project is designed to tackle financial barriers that often prevent young people from engaging in positive activities, especially amid ongoing cost of living pressures that have hit many households in Oldham. By covering membership costs and providing free meals, FCHO and Mahdlo aim to ensure that more young residents can benefit from safe and inspiring environments that support personal development.

Ben Thomas, head of community services at First Choice Homes Oldham, highlighted the importance of the partnership. "Often our young residents do not have access to positive opportunities that support their personal development, confidence and aspirations," he said. "We believe this partnership with Mahdlo recognises this and demonstrates our shared commitment to improving young people’s lives here in Oldham."
