The Festival of Libraries returns to Greater Manchester from 10 to 14 June 2026, promising a packed programme of free family events for Oldham residents and visitors alike. Organised by Manchester City of Literature, the festival aims to celebrate reading, creativity, and community with activities spanning all ten boroughs, including a strong lineup in Oldham.

In Oldham, the festival offers a variety of exhibitions and hands-on activities. Gallery Oldham hosts "Once Upon a Time" from 21 March to 5 September, featuring artwork by five illustrators. Also at Gallery Oldham, "Oldham Wakes" by Sophie Tyrrell runs from 23 May to 5 September. During May half-term, the "Look For A Book" trail invites families to explore outdoor library spaces in Oldham, where copies of "Put Your Records On" are hidden with riddles and clues. On Thursday 11 June, Gallery Oldham will host GO Baby sessions designed for children under two and their families, offering sensory play in a relaxed environment. Meanwhile, Oldham Central Library presents a videogame workshop on Saturday 13 June, led by a BAFTA-recognised developer. The session introduces beginners to game creation using a web-based tool, making technology fun and accessible.
