People affected by dementia in Oldham can book a free face-to-face appointment with a specialist nurse when clinics return to Nationwide branches in September.

The Oldham clinic will be at 39 High Street OL1 3BE on 29th September. Appointments can be booked through Dementia UK's website. The sessions are run by Admiral Nurses, specialist dementia nurses who support families, and are open to anyone affected by dementia.

The clinics offer practical and emotional advice on all aspects of dementia, from worries about symptoms through to getting a diagnosis and understanding how the condition can progress.

Dementia UK said nearly one million people are estimated to be living with dementia in the UK today, with more people caring for a friend or family member with the condition. The charity shared advice for carers on looking after their own health and wellbeing.

The advice includes asking family and friends for help, looking into support such as a Carer's Assessment from Social Services, making time for health checks, rest and hobbies, finding activities to enjoy with the person they care for, and speaking to an employer about flexible working options.

Nationwide is funding 30 dementia specialist Admiral Nurses and is hosting clinics in over 230 Nationwide branches across the country as part of its Fairer Futures programme.
