Residents in Delph are exploring whether they can jointly buy a plot of green land before it goes to auction on Wednesday, November 11, Saddleworth Independent reports. The land, more than six acres near Hill Mill Lane and Hull Mill Dam, has a guide price of £60,000-£80,000.

A spokesperson said the aim is to protect the space for the future, adding: "First, we need to understand the level of local support." People are asked to indicate possible contributions, and volunteers with legal, land, finance, fundraising, communications or project skills are sought.
