Delph Fish & Chip Shop put up for sale after more than 50 years in same family
Delph Fish & Chip Shop, owned by the Isherwood family since 1972, is up for sale, ending over 50 years of village history.

Delph Fish & Chip Shop has been put up for sale after more than half a century in the hands of the same family.
The chippy, housed in a Grade II-listed building on King Street in Delph, has been owned by the Isherwood family since 1972 and has become a familiar part of village life for generations of Saddleworth residents.
The business was bought by husband and wife Graham and Mary Isherwood, who became well-known and respected figures in the village.
Mary, who has since died, was born in Omagh, Northern Ireland, in 1945 and grew up at Nazareth House Orphanage in Derry. It was there that she discovered her love of music, developing talents in both singing and playing the violin.
At just 11 years old, she was selected to join the Little Gaelic Singers on a tour of the United States. The tour included an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, on the same programme that featured Elvis Presley during his rise to international stardom, and she also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.
At the age of 15, she reportedly hired a bicycle and left the orphanage, making her way to Liverpool and eventually Manchester. It was in Manchester, at the Café Royal, that she met her future husband Graham.
The couple later married and, in 1972, took over the fish and chip shop. Over the following decades their business served generations of families and visitors to the village, and the couple were admired and respected throughout Delph.
Their contribution extended beyond running the shop, and the decision to market the property marks a notable moment for one of Saddleworth's long-standing independent businesses.
The Grade II-listed premises on King Street are being advertised for sale, although the future of the fish and chip shop has not yet been confirmed.
