Cole Geyer is back at Oldham after the Roughyeds activated the hooker's loan release clause ahead of the play-offs.

The former Melbourne player spent the past four months at Huddersfield, featuring in all but one of the Giants' fixtures since making the loan move in May. He scored two tries in their 30-18 win over Leigh Leopards.

Geyer made 14 appearances for Oldham before earning his Super League opportunity. He said: "It feels good to be back at Oldham with the lads and I'm now looking forward to finishing the year strong and hopefully winning it all in a couple of weeks."

He added: "Being at Huddersfield was great, I enjoyed the challenge of playing Super League week in week out and I learnt a lot from all the staff." He said he had stayed in contact with the Oldham players and watched their results.

Head coach Alan Kilshaw said: "I'm delighted to get Cole back to where his UK journey started." He thanked the board for backing the move and thanked Huddersfield Giants for their understanding and professionalism.

Oldham face Widnes Vikings in Sunday's Qualifying Semi-Final at Boundary Park. The club has secured its highest league finish since dropping out of Super League in 1997, with Sunday's winners set for a trip to London Broncos in the Qualifying Final.
