Emergency services were called to Frederick Street in Oldham on Saturday afternoon following reports of a child lying on the ground, sparking a significant response from police and ambulance crews.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the call was made, with officers quickly establishing a cordon around the area. The road was closed between Keble Avenue and Oriel Avenue, and from Grendon Avenue to Hollins Road, as a precaution while the incident was assessed.

Photographs from the scene showed a marked police presence, with around a dozen officers in attendance alongside at least three ambulance vehicles. The sight of such a large emergency response led to understandable concern among local residents, with initial reports suggesting a possible road traffic collision involving a child.

However, following a review of nearby CCTV footage, police confirmed that the incident had not been a crash. Officers believe the child had simply fallen from a bicycle and that no other vehicle or person was involved.

The child is not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries. The North West Ambulance Service has been approached for further details on their condition and any treatment provided at the scene.

The road closure remained in place for a period while emergency crews worked, but it is understood that Frederick Street has since fully reopened to traffic.

This incident serves as a reminder that not every large emergency response signals a serious collision, and that swift action by the public and services can ensure even minor incidents are treated with proper care. Local residents have praised the professionalism of those who attended.

Community safety remains a priority in the area, with police urging anyone who sees a vulnerable person or child in distress to always report it. In this case, the precautionary response proved appropriate and the child is now receiving the necessary support.
