Roads in Greenfield will be closed for up to nine days while carriageway surfacing works take place on Chew Valley Road.

The work is being carried out by J Hopkins on behalf of Oldham Council. Letters have been delivered to local businesses and residents setting out the planned schedule.

The works will start on Wednesday, August 19 and are due to complete on Sunday, August 30. The contractor said that with residents' co-operation in keeping the road clear, the surfacing works should be completed on time.

The closures are split into three phases. Phase 1 covers Chapel Road to Wellington Road. Full road closures and diversions will be in place on Sunday, August 23 between 8am and 10am and from 4:30pm to 7pm, and again on Sunday, August 30 between 4.30pm and 7pm.

From Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, the road will be under temporary traffic signals between 8am and 5pm. Access to Tesco Superstore will be maintained during all opening hours.

Phase 2 (Wellington Road to Kinders Crescent) and Phase 3 (Kinders Crescent to Berry Brow) will see full road closures and diversions during working hours, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, from Wednesday, August 19 to Thursday, August 27.

Only one phase will be closed at any one time, but the contractor has said phasing may be swapped within the same day to reduce delivery time and disruption to local residents and businesses.

Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times, and vehicular access will be possible outside working hours. Residents are being asked to take extra care and make themselves aware of all signs, cones and barriers, and parents are asked to keep children clear of the site and machinery.

The contractor also advises residents to check the soles of their shoes for bitumen or loose chippings before entering their homes.
