Around 200 people gathered at Oldham Edge yesterday evening to watch a solar eclipse, with temperatures reaching 27°C and adding to the relaxed summer atmosphere.

The crowd was a mix of small family groups, couples young and old, groups of lads and solo dog walkers, all making their way to the Edge to take in the views and enjoy one of Oldham's most distinctive open spaces.

The evening created a friendly atmosphere, with people stopping to enjoy the location, the spectacle and each other's company.

Oldham Edge is currently home to a travelling community, which adds another cultural element to an area sometimes described as one of the more interesting and unconventional parts of Oldham.

For one evening at least, the Edge brought together a real cross-section of Oldham: families, friends, couples, dog walkers, visitors and residents, all sharing the same patch of the town and the scene unfolding above them.
