Oldham is set to gain a new overnight bus service and changes to existing routes as part of the biggest single package of improvements ever made to the Bee Network.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has announced 36 changes across all ten boroughs, which it says will benefit around 740,000 people. The first wave launches between August 30 and September 6 this year, with further phases between January and March 2027.

For Oldham, the key change is a new night bus on the number 83 route. From September 3, buses will run through the night between Oldham, Failsworth, Hollinwood and Manchester city centre on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

There will also be changes to 83 services from August 30. Extra buses will run on evenings and weekends, and these services will terminate at Oldham Bus Station instead of Oldham Mumps, shortening the route by 1km. TfGM says the change is aimed at improving punctuality.

The announcement comes weeks after Bev Craig was elected as the new Mayor of Greater Manchester, taking over from Andy Burnham. She said: "The Bee Network belongs to the people of Greater Manchester and it needs to work for every community. As we build it, we're listening and responding to what residents want with the biggest set of improvements we've ever made in one go."

TfGM said every borough in Greater Manchester will have a night bus by September, with five new round-the-clock services launching. The 83 night bus is one of them.

Other changes announced as part of the package include new and improved services in Bolton, Bury, Salford, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan and Stockport, but for Oldham the main changes are on the number 83.
